This was a blink and you miss it summer - so much so fast. Majorettes every where, wrote a book, took some pictures, cooked a lot of spaghetti. I love London in Summer.
Major Lazer played in Cuba to 400,000 ppl. It was totally crazy and the first time a US act had performed in Cuba since the US and Cuba started talking again. I was so lucky to be there.
THE SKY 15
Spent a lot of time in planes lately - it gets old fast - this was a good flight though.
Valentines Day in Beirut - got to explore a little bit more this trip - but still had to carry my passport and get it checked twice within 100 meters of the hotel.
FIT FIT FIT - made lots of videos with Ray about how hoops can make you fit so fast :)
Trained up and kept things in order - walked the lake every chance I had - started to make space in my heart and my mind for this place to mean home.
Another super summer. Did some big classes, made the hoopermarket all pretty, worked with Obie and braided my hair purple ( and then watched half of it fall out after.. )
ARAB'S GOT TALENT ROUND 1 - This was a whirlwind 1 day trip, I was in that catsuit from 6:30am till half past midnight which was when I finally did my act - I then had 2 hours in the hotel and then a flight back to London - it was 45 degree's all day and I must have drunk 5 litres of water without needing the bathroom once - HYDRATION NATION.
MONKIIII - had so much fun shooting with my sister Mapei xxxx
Long beach is not LA but I sure do love it there. Met the Moxi girls and skated their beaches - lots of space, flat streets on a grid system - yes yes yes!
NEW YORK 14
LA SOIREE - THE FINAL ONE. My last season with La Soiree, 6 months in NYC - it was great - everything from snow to sun, sad tears to happy tears. staircases to stairs. Whoopi to Liza. AMAZING TIMES. And my mum got to see it so that was really rad too.
Adventures in the motherland. Country vacations with the Duck. Lots of Europe, just how I like it.
CHRISTMAS IN VEGAS - Magic- what a time to be alive. John and Piffles were there. Ate lots of pancakes and saw Liberace's wardrobe. Aim for the stars.
The Majorettes and I went to India on a whirlwind 48 hour gig mission - one show, a lot of sightseeing and Lizzie was a celebrity at the local temple. And we got to dress like Zebra's.
NORTH KOREA 13
Best trip so far. I had always wanted to see the Mass Games - I tried to go in 2012 but they were cancelled - then I managed to see it the next year - but since then they have not had another one - so I feel very lucky - 100,000 acrobats making magic. Also I took a 24 hour train in and out of Beijing which was pretty amazing.
I went out for the stockholm fringe festival - it was so rad. Caught up with Jacqui and Ruben which was fun. Went to a hip hop festival in a forest. Ate a lot of hot food. Took some fun pictures. I love stockholm.
Shows at Hotel Amour, videos with Daily Motion, Parties with Paulie, Paris is LOVE.
Majorettes on tour ! Our first international adventure - we went to Italy for the International Majorette Competition - We kind looked like we were going on a hens weekend at the airport though... Ate a lot of cheese and our bath had a door so cool.
CLUB SANDWIIICH PAREE invited me to Cannes to hoop - the parties were crazy. The best bit was going to a party in a castle and Psy of Gangnam style fame turned up and everyone went crazy and took pictures with him - then the next day we found out that Psy wasn't even in Europe and this guy had been swanning around Cannes getting into all the parties pretending to be him. Genius.
2 week rollercoaster trip - saw a waffle win a wrestling match, met the first African American female ringmistress with Veronica Blair's Outkast circus show - everyone had to perform to an Outkast's song - I can't remember which track I used !! damn..
I dipped in and out all year - and the first hoopermarket was born. This was the best.
ATE A LOT OF AVOCADO. La Soiree at the Sydney Opera House. Ray Ray hooked me up with all the best eye lashes. Jo Duck took my picture by the water. Made some videos. Clara H gave me the best nails of my life. Had a pink cape. Good times.
Melbourne - HOME. made it just in time for Christmas chow down PHEW.
La Soiree at home, and at The Forum no less ! Great times, good costumes. Lots of Pho and outfit planning at Edgeley. Burnt my creme cashmere cape on a lightbulb in my dressing room - showgirl rookie error. Who knew those lights were so hot?
MEXICO !! I love Mexico - sheesh. It was everything - I stayed with The Flaminguettes who I also made a video with and drove to the forest and taught at The Mexican Circus Festival it was super inspiring and full of new tricks, new friends and great hats. I also was totally obssessed with pinyata possibilities. I could move here no worries.
Hung out with Philo and hooped in all the obvious places aka venice beach, he also took me to the Pan Pacific Park where they filmed Xanadu !! amazing! best part of this trip was going to Crenshaw and seeing the space ship endeavour LITERALLY go down the road - SPACE SPACE SPACE !!! There was a marching band leading the way and everything !!
LAS VEGAS 12
First trip to the neon wonder that is Vegas - definitely not the last - I 100% love it here and regret every contract I ever turned down - what an idiot ! Shot with Alice Hawkins in the desert - learned to drive the american way, reconfirmed my fear of being close to fireworks and slept for 36 hours straight after going in a super hot mud spring. RE-SET.
Performed at David Lynch's club Silencio - that was totally brilliant. Tiniest stage and scariest place to be in the day time - but it was fun! Made new friends, Ate chocolate mousse with Charaf and ate a lot of creme pastries..
Turned 30! had a lot of balloons and a lot of friends in tow - partied and had dinner in the new Bethnal Green Working Mens Club restaurant. The Majorettes were born and the Olympics meant there were a LOT of shows in town which was great - I lived at Selfridges for 3 months performing - it was exhausting <3
Jo duck came to visit and I went for a run in a thunderstorm - probably not the smartest idea..
I went to Nepal 2 days after having a gland removed from my neck - after the biopsy they told me I had toxoplasmosis which was weird ! but I was ok and I found an amazing treatment called Sotai Therapy which I had every second day while I was in Nepal and it made me feel 10000% better. All the massage therapists where deaf and dumb, the main doctor explained that he only employed local nepali's with these difficulties as it meant their other senses were hyper switched on. I was out there to work with Sapana Circus - now called Circus Kathmandu. They rescue Nepali's orphans who have been sold to indian circuses and are being treated badly - once they bring them back to Nepal the children often end up living in an orphanage and have the option to continue training - and they had a bunch of hoop girls so I worked with them!
ST TROPEZ 11
Willy Cartier. oh and I bumped into Amy G.
EXOTICA ! Finding pics... Performed with Raphaelle Boitel my favourite frenchie - Showzam's heyday the best one yet!
Another beautiful summer - The Art Car Boot Fair - First trip to carnival - Packed hoops to send to Nepal - Lived on Redchurch St and worked on having straight bangs a lot.
Cimbed cradle mountain with my mum. rested a lot. ate a lot. felt pretty tired. Dyed my hair orange. Oh and went to BOXWARS !! <3
not sure what happened this summer. It was hot though.
NEW YORK 09
I went on an adventure with the Ducks, Steve and Jo. It was great. We ate well and went on many classic NYC adventures.
London season with La Soiree - had my face all over town and got to spend many evenings prancing around with Le Gateau Chocolate in spandex. We lived in soho square for 6 months which was AMAZING. I use to buy fresh pasta from a little shop around the corner every week.
I Love Blackpool. The lights, The old theatres. The Tower Circus. Nice to meet you, to meet you NICE.
NEW YORK 08
I played Josephine Baker for 6 months in a show called Desir. I had dinner every friday with my flat mate Marco Noury at Chez Jospehine - it was MAGICAL and Jean Claude Baker made me feel like a part of the family - he was the sweetest.
Somehow I ended up in Somalia with 120 hula hoops and a chicken incubator with my dad. We went to Hargeysia and Berbera and a few places in between. I split the hoops between 2 circus schools and an orphanage. Who knew there were circus schools in Somalia ?! I sent them a DHL package a few months later - I don't know if they ever got it.
Father daughter relationships are difficult.
Went back home with La Soiree <3 Jumped around like an idiot with Jo Duck.
First trip to the motherland. Visa sorted. Shows. Lara from the whoppi club putting me to work straight away. what a dream.
NEW YORK 07
Next stop was NYC - I met Tanya from the wauwau sisters - it was magical - friends for life - and every NYC cliche rolled into one.
SAN FRANCISCO 07
I left Melbourne on a round the world trip - SF was the first stop - I stayed with Daneekah and had the best time. Halfie in the forest <3 burrito's the size of my arm, and Jewish wine. x
A few melbourne moments. Fresh outta circus school. Making acts. Making plans.
I WENT TO JAPAN IN 2005 DRESSED AS A KOALA. I stayed for 2 weeks. I hurt my foot on the first day and I couldn't walk very well, so I bought a bike and rode around listening to gogo music that Michelle Boyde had given me. Thanks to my boss Chanie from GENKI for telling me the best hotel to stay at. This was a great adventure. YUNG M. <3
